 English Abstract:

Addiction is the cause of leaving home for most of the drug abusers. It was hard for drug abusers to reconstruct the relationships of their families. Since it was a long distance to journey home, some people cannot get along with their families during their lifetime. For those who succeeded in drug rehabilitation, what happened to the changing of their family relationships? What happened in the processes in family reunion? These are the research questions addressed in this research. There were three research participants who had recovered from drug addiction while being placed in Christianity rehabilitation centers and were clean for at least five years. The narrative data were collected during three to four interview sessions for each participant. The narrative data was analyzed according to the procedure proposed by Denzin’s (1989) “Interpretive Interactionism”. The contextualized life stories were written for the report. The result shows that the construction of the meaning of home is a progressive process, not unchangeable. The meaning of home was different during the different stages in the life time. The family relationship was separated during the period of addiction. Since they were unable to face their life problems, lives become totally hopeless and they left home.

There were three steps in the processes of returning home for these drug ex-abusers as the followings: (1) The motion of drug rehabilitation was triggered by critical events related to the loss of significant others in their families, thereby they took advices of their family members to the drug rehabilitation centers. (2) The Christianity made impact on their spirituality transcendence. The value of lives was changed by connected to the Higher Power. (3) The family relationship was reconstructed. Due to the spirituality transcendence, the meaning of home was changed. Therefore they took actions to reconnect with their families, and returned home eventually.
