There is a paucity of research examining the persons with intellectual disabilities as the victims for the sex assault. This study explored the characteristics of the perpetrators, the pattern of the assaults, and the relationships between the victims and the perpetrators. Related studies have shown that persons with intellectual disabilities are more likely to be the victims for reasons, such as accessibility, easily to be controlled, low risk and low cost for the perpetrators. The perpetrators usually hold the negative views of women and thinking errors about sex assault. The motives include seeking self-affirmation, stimulation and venting the hatred. There would be frustration, inferiority and loneliness when the perpetrators felt that they were unable to meet the social expectations, and all these would result in sex crime. In this study, 27 adult inmates of the Taichung Prison were selected and accessed to relevant information, 6 of them were face-to-face interviewed. Results indicated that characteristics of the perpetrators for sexually assaulting victims with intellectual disabilities are elder, lower education, depression, lower self-esteem, poor economic condition, previous convictions of crime are none or fewer, crime-denying, when compared to those who committed sexual assault with normal persons. They proceeded the crime peacefully, unpremeditatedly and their motives are obvious and simple. What’s worse is that the victims didn’t or seldom fight back. The weakness of the victims could be a positive trigger for assaults.
