● English Abstract:

Male intimate partner violence varies across cases, so a practically and validly typological frame is essential for understanding the psychological mechanics and characteristics of male violence. In Taiwan, counselors were used to import western typological models to have effective counseling. However, many well-known western typologies were found to have deficiency in considerations related to Chinese traditional Relationalism within changing Taiwan society. These shortages may cause inefficiency in the batterers corrected counseling programs in Taiwan. This in turn directs the victim women into unaware risk of violence as they could be improperly convinced about her safety from the counseled batterers. From the above observations, there is an urgent need to construct a well-defined indigenous typology according to the male batterers’ narration with the context of Chinese Relationalism and changing Taiwan society. In addition, this study also underlined the considerations of male batterers’ crime diary, forensic documents, and court statements for checking as well as supplement. In order to approach this goal, this study was designed by following the constructivism paradigm and adopt consensual qualitative research (CQR) maneuver to analyze the text. Toward this, 24 interviewees were invited as interviewees for semi-structural in-depth interview, they all committed intimate partner violence and violated domestic law. The results indicated that the interviewees could be divided into four types according to five dimensions. The four types are as follows: Self-modification, Following-law, Distress, and Fighting-back. The five dimensions are as follows: Reflect related to patriarchy, Alcoholic usage, Criticism to partners, Maintenance of relationship, and Personality disorder and clinic symptoms. I also discussed the applications for future studies and counseling practice related to each type for intimate partner violence.
