以腦波檢視不同型態暴力青少年的錯誤監控機制 Error Monitoring in Different Types of Violent Adolescents: an Event-Related Potential Study

過去研究顯示慢性青少年犯罪者的犯行佔嚴重暴力罪行(如殺人、強姦、搶劫)的 82%,這些慢性少年犯罪者長大後大多仍持續其犯行,同時犯罪的嚴重性也隨著年齡的 成長而大增(Wolfgang, Thornberry&Figlio, 1987)。過去幾年來,我們已經成功的將抑 制實驗典範應用至暴力行為者與一般受試者,建立了行為、腦波及跨顱磁刺激的實驗資 料,並且將研究成果發表於Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuroimage, Behavioural Brain Research and Neuroreport 等國際期刊,為接續上述之成果,本研究目的試圖從認 知神經科學的觀點來探討暴力行為者的錯誤監控,以各種不同型態之暴力犯罪者為研究 對象,包括在監獄服刑之重傷害/殺人成年犯、以及犯下暴力犯罪青少年為研究對象,瞭 解這些個體一再犯下嚴重暴力犯罪的原因是否與錯誤監控的失能有關,同時採用腦波儀 為研究工具,比較這些暴力行為者與一般個體在執行周邊干擾/信號停止作業的腦波差 異,本計畫提供一個開端,希望在累積一定研究數量後,對於偵測及預防暴力犯罪提供 一個最佳的建議。

 

English Abstract

 

Violent Criminal behavior is often ascribed to problems with behavioral control and correction. In the project, we propose to use event-related potentials (ERPs) to probe the neural mechanisms of inhibitory control and error monitoring underlying violent offenders’ behaviors. A flanker/stop-signal task will be incorporated with ERPs to investigate the error monitoring and the inhibitory control in adult violent offenders and violent adolescents. In the past few years, we have successfully applied the stop-signal paradigm in the studies of impulsive violent offenders and normal subjects and built ERP and TMS data. In this proposal, we anticipate to use ERPs and standard Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (sLORETA) to offer some information about the brain regions such as anterior cingulate cortex and inferior frontal cortex involved in error monitoring and inhibitory control. Our studies have been published in the first rate international journals, like: Journal of Cognitive neuroscience, Neuroimage, Behavioural Brain Research and Neuroreport. Therefore, we have strong background to achieve the goals of this project and to make direct contribution to the society.
